Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V)
Independent verification and validation (IV&V) is a practice in which a completely independent team assesses a work product that was generated by another team. This is often done throughout the project life cycle but can also be done after product creation and testing. To perform IV&V, a company must be comfortable with all aspects of the client’s business process. They must be technically savvy and possess superior analytical and communication skills.
How can IV&V help you? Having one team perform IV&V on another team’s work product is a form of quality assurance — the team creating the product is much less likely to cut corners. In addition, system documentation is greatly improved by having another set of eyes on it. Potential risks are better identified by having multiple parties share in product creation and quality review.
